Gabagool is a way to pronounce “capicola” with a Southern Italian/New Jersey accent.

In 2013, two guys from the east coast opened a food truck in Portland serving Italian-American cuisine inspired by the food and culture we grew up with. Three years later it had grown into a brick and mortar restaurant in the St Johns neighborhood of Portland, OR.

We serve hand rolled fresh pasta crafted on site daily. We keep our ingredients as fresh and local possible, and source others directly from Italy, like San Marzano tomatoes and Prosciutto di Parma. Our recipies are molded around the traditional methods passed down through generations of Italian-American families, including making as much as possible from scratch. The mozzarella is hand pulled, the ricotta is made fresh from whole milk, the sausage is ground from fresh pork shoulder, and our guanciale and pancetta is cured in house for two weeks. Food is only as good as its ingredients.

Our sandwiches are made with piadina, an unleavened flatbread common in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. They are rolled and cooked to order, creating a thin, warm, flaky shell for a unique sandwich.

We strive to provide a casual, affordable dining experience in a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere.  Quality Italian food doesn’t need to be served with cloth linens, expensive silverware and a hefty price tag. We believe in providing our guests with a relaxed, enjoyable, and social environment where the focus is on the food and community. Food brings us together.

We have a full bar serving Italian and Oregon beer and wine, and specialty cocktails. Happy hour is available Monday through Thursday from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Open 7 days a week 11 am to 9 pm.

Sorry, we do not take reservations.

Come visit us at 7955 N Lombard St in St Johns.
